George Stretcher was the youngest son of a blacksmith named William Stretcher and his wife Margaret North. Of the couple's five children, George was one of only two to survive to adulthood - the other being his brother James who was nine years older than him. When George was 22 years old William died. William's will left his house at Willian to his widow Margaret for her lifetime, after which it was to revert to George. William's other son, James, had already been provided for in William's lifetime and was only left half a crown in the will.

At the age of 30, George married a Mary Hide. They had three children baptised at Willian up to 1647, after which no further sightings have been found of the family.
