George W. Shumate, P. O., Cambridge. Son of James and Jane Shumate, was born in Fauquier county, Va., October 6, 1822, and moved to Knox county, Ohio, and to Marion county, Missouri, in 1837; thence to Lewis county; thence to Clark county, and from Clark back again to Lewis county, in 1868 he moved to this county and went to farming and dealing in stock. On the 1st of March, 1849, he married Miss Hannah Dale, of Lewis county, Missouri, and has five sons and three daughters. He is a carpenter by trade, but has not worked at his trade since he has lived in Saline county.
