- Will of George Reid of the District of Ninety six in the State of South Carolina.
- Names: "my Daughter, Rose Bowie, wife of John Bowie", "Daughter Ann Baskins, wife of Captain William Baskins", "Daughter Margaret Reid, wife of Hugh Reid", "son Samuel Reid", "son Alexander Reid", "son Joseph Reid", "if son Alexander should die without issue, that my son Joseph shall enjoy his part of my Estate only giving unto my son Samuel, two good Negroes, or eighty pounds sterling:, "my Wearing Apparel to my son Samuel, I also Recommend Polly McGee to the care of my two sons Alexander & Joseph, hoping that they will help her, and give her something, in case of need as their own prudence may direct:
- "And lastly it is my will that the Plantation lying on the waters of the Hen Loope [?] containing Three Hundred & Twenty acres, is my last Gift, which I give and bequeath, to my son Samuel, and I do hearby Appoint Maj. John Bowie Esqr., Capt. Hugh Wardlow, & Capt. William Baskins Esqr. of the District aforesaid; to be Guardians or Overseers, of this my Last Will & Testament, in case any dispute or controversy should happen amongst my sons, that it may be left to their Determination"...
- In Witness whereof the sd. George have hereunto set his hand and seal this Twenty third Day of November in the year of our Lord One Thousand seven Hundred & Eighty six.

LTC George Reid BIRTH 23 Dec 1719 Ireland DEATH 6 Apr 1790 (aged 70) Abbeville, Abbeville County, South Carolina, USA BURIAL Upper Long Cane Cemetery Abbeville, Abbeville County, South Carolina, USA
1719-Born in Ulster, Ireland. 1745-Landed in Philadelphia, PA (from Ulster Ireland). He lived in Lancaster Co., PA for a time. 1753-Purchased land in Rowan Co., NC, per Granville Dist., NC Land Grant. 1763-Sold the above land in Rowan Co., NC. 1763-Purchased land in Granville Co., SC (Later Ninety-Six Dist. and then Abbeville, Co., SC) on Long Cane Creek. 1784-Purchased land on Hencoop Creek, Abbeville Co., SC. 1787-Along with others, signed the Application for a Charter to Incorporate the Greenville Presbyterian Church on Jan. 11, 1787. (George was an elder in this church and active in it's formation.) 1790-Will Probated on April 6, 1790 Revolutionary War Veteran, S.C. Militia
From a secondary source of indeterminate origin: George with brother Alexander and Alexander's wife Margaret McKay and other brothers emigrated to Lancaster County PA thru Philadelphia in 1745 from Ulster, where his Reid ancestry had been seated since 1611 coming then from Scotland. Moved from Lancaster Co. PA to Rowan Co. NC and in 1762 to Abbeville Co. SC.
