    This exerpt from:
MON VALLEY BIOGRAPHIES on Joseph Beckett.
"His wife Lucy Pentecost, was a sister of Colonel Dorsey Pentecost, who was a conspicuous figure in the early history of Western Pennsylvania".

This is assumed to be the same Lucy Pentecost shown in Bristol Parish Register in Dinwiddie Co. Va. and bapt. date is given as Jan 25, 1740.She is the documented child of George and Jane Pentecost. Only one male child is listed, Dorsey is not, neither is my ancestor Scarborough, but I believe they are siblings.

The early historical evidence is slim, but whenever you find the name Pentecost with Dinwiddie Co., Virginia origins, we can say they are most probably related.

I am trying to assemble photographic evidence of descendants that help to sustain this argument that the early ancestors were indeed siblings.

The children of George and Jane Pentecost given in the
    Bristol Parish Register are:
    Elizabeth B. Feb 3, 1732; bapt. May 20,1733
    William bapt. Aug 2, 1734
    Lucy, b. January 25, 1740
    Anne, b. Sept 8, 1743; bapt. Oct. 9, 1743.

Below is an account of those listed above and their connections to other probable siblings not listed.

William - bapt. Aug. 2, 1734.Don't know when he died, but his sons, William and Dancy fought in the Amer. Rev.William survived and Dancy did not. There may be other children.William Jr. settled in Ga.

Mary Pentecost -who married John Reesand moved to South Carolina. Mary named one of her children Scarborough Rees, showing a likely connection to my ancestor. Her great grandson John Gayle b. 1791 was Gov. of Alabama 1831-35.his brother George Washington Gayle marriedthe great grandaughter of George S. Pentecost b. ca. 1791 in S. C./ lived Alabama, moved to Texas.

Elizabeth also said to have married and moved to S. C., but I do not have her married name.

Anne thought to have married John Housh and lived in Brown Co. Ohio.

Dorsey Pentecost First found inFredrick Co., Va. around 1768 on a Power of Attorney for his Joseph Beeler.Dorsey married Catherine Beeler. He is given in Mon Valley Biographies as a sister to Lucy Beckett, wife of Col. Joseph Beckett.

    * Note: I have acquired several images online showing Dorsey's great grandson Joseph Pentecost and Alexander J. Pentecost from the Civil war era.Joseph especially resembles my great grandfather (from Scarborough's line). They are similar enough to have been brothers, not just 3rd cousins. Alexander resembles some of the brothers of my great grandfather. There is even a sketch of Dorsey's son Joseph for comparison. It is great fun to compare for family resemblence.

Scarborough Pentecost d. 1795 Brunswick Co., Va. - my ancestor (who is listed with George Pentecost in Brunswick Co., May 24, 1773 on a list of Inhabitants of St. Andrews Parish). They are the only two Pentecosts listed.

Possibly James Pentecost may have been another sibling. He was listed following the Rev. in Brunswick Co., but went to N. C. by 1790 and some say he is the ancestor to the Louisiana Pentecosts.
