Facts and Events
Name George Morris
Gender Male
Birth? 1790 Lexington KY
Marriage 3 Sep 1827 Brown Co OHto Elizabeth Herd
Death? 1 Jun 1861 Mason Co IL

Prob not same man who married #1 Sally Ranson, 1807 in Madison Co KY, since other Morris names do not match the Campbell Co family. Did George MORRIS m Permelia MARSHALL, 25 OCT 1813 in Lawrenceburg, Anderson Co KY?

George was born in Lexington KY (possibly), m 1827 Brown Co OH, res 1830 census in Mason Co KY, just across the river from Sprigg Twp., Adams Co OH, where he later lived and where his wife’s probable parents lived.

Probably none of these is our man: In 1840 in KY there were George Morrises in Green Co (x 2), Kent Co, Bath Co, Clay Co, and Hick Co. Could he be son of these people from genforum? “George Morris and Sarah Coleson m 1782 Wilkes Co NC and they both died in Clay Co KY. I am a descendant of their son Mark.” Further: James Morris was the brother of my gggrandfather Mark Morris, they were the sons of George and Sarah Morris from Wilkes Co NC, who came to KY in early 1800's. James was b Nov 27 1788 in Buncombe Co NC, he m Lydia Asher, Dec 14 1844 and he died in 1871 in Yamhill, Oregon. James went first to Carroll Co. Missouri, and in 1851 he arrived in Oregon, with him he brought several children and their spouses, Jim and Lydia made their home in Yamhill Co. for nearly 20 years. Their children were: Mary Morris Abraham Morris John morris Milla morris Nancy morris Sarah Isabelle Morris Robert Morris b.1825 James Morris jr. b.1827 George W. Morris b.1828, he signed papers in Yamhill in 1864 when James applied for bounty land, m. Mary Cummings Claborn Morris Rachel morris Perry Morris Martha Morris

James also had a brother Abraham, b 1790 Clay Co KY.

For comparison, from genforum: Daniel Morris’s will in Fayette Co KY written 21 May 1802; pr. Dec. 1806, names wife Ann. Sons David, John, William, Robert. Daughters Mary Hopkins, Rhoda Polk, Sarah Beauchamp. [Wills A:363]

From Rootsweb: The Morris, Herds and Spinnings were in the Greentree, Lebonon, Warren County area as far back as 1799- with the Herds coming from Pennsylvania and Kentucky; the Spinnings from Connecticutt and the Morrises from New Jersey. I have quite a bit of info to share with anyone who cares to help me fill in some blanks. Thanks, Carol Foster

From genforum: John b 1776 d 1841 Reily Twp, Butler Co Oh and Mary Ray Morris is my line. Brent you and I have shared information on the Ray family. I am trying to connect John with parents. I think John's siblings were Benjamin, William, Esther, Thomas and Robert. One article on John states he is from VA. He m in Jefferson Co KY in 1798 and is on tax records in Butler Co in 1807. William is in Ross, Butler Co. I have found a Benjamin in Warren Co, Robert in Butler and early records for Thomas in Butler. I am inclined to think that this family had origins in PA, but I haven't been able to connect anything as yet. I am very much interested in your latest research on PA.[This line is probably connected to MHP’s Ray family.] Here is another Clay Co KY family: Lewis Hunt b:1805 in 1826-1835 Clay KY tax lists; m Nancy Morris b 1800 m May 11 1826 in Clay Co KY. Father: George Morris To Harrison Co MO by 1839 Was a Hatter by trade. [Note our Nancy (Morris) Armstrong and family went to Harrison co MO by 1880s.]

There is a Morris family in Brown Co OH in 1830, but James m Nancy Hardesty in 1798 in WV, so prob not the parents of our George. Their children b from 1801.

In Mason Co KY: Mason Co KY - Deed book Q p. 10 Sept. 29, 1815: Nathaniel Hixson and his wife Anna, James Morris and Nancy his wife, John Morris and Mary L his wife, Asa R. Runyon and Mary his wife and William V Morris, all of Mason Co KY, to Joab Houghton, of Mason county ....lot in village of May's Lick Witnesses: P. Day and James V. Runyon

David and Mary (Shotwell) Morris came from Morristown NJ to Mason Co KY ca 1789; no son George.

James and Richard Morris both entered land in KY in 1783. Richard Morris, resident of Louisa Co VA, was granted land KY in 1787 & 1808.
