Person:George Martin (94)

For several generations, the Martin family were farm labourers, gardeners and other relatively low skilled occupations. However, there are no records of any of them being inmates at the parish workhouses or poorhouses.

Unfortunately, there is no sign of George and Edith Martin in the 1901 England Census. George is believed to have been fighting the Second Boer War at this time, but Edith Emily cannot be found with any of the children in England. The family of Henry John and Isabella Sophia Rogers is living at 46 Canon Street (Edith's home as a child) by then and although George's parents, James and Olive Martin, are still resident in Canon Street, Winchester, and their son Richard is later born at 15 Canon Street (15 Canon Street is listed as unoccupied during the 1901 British Census), George and Edith cannot be found in the records after their marriage in 1899.
