Found a record on ancestry stating he was inducted as a private24 Sep 1861 at the age of 20 and was discharged as a Captainfor the Union Army, 12th Iowa Infantry, Company H.. Was Promotedto Full Captain on 28 Jun 1865. He came from England and his wife from Scotland. One of George Maffit's Granddaughters insisted he was a cousinof George Washington.
