Discard Murder Theory in Finding of Body

State Police Investigate Death of Former Greensburg Man Missing Since Monday.

    CORONER TO HOLD AUTOPSY TODAY

That George Loughner, 60 year old coal operator of Tire Hill, Cambria county whose body was found lying in Tub Mill Run near New Alexandria, by John Murphy of Andrico, yesterday, is a suicide, was the theory advanced by state police who investigated the case today.

Private J.J. Conwell, of Troop A, state police of Greensburg detailed on the case by Captain Thomas McLaughlin, stated that the position of the body and absence of any marks of violence together with the fact that powder marks were noticeable on the head of the dead man, indicated that Loughner died by his own hand. The bullet fired by a .32 caliber revolver found at the side of Loughner, had been shot at close range.

Furthermore, Private Conwell learned, Loughner had recently been worrying over some business. The state trooper was able to get this information from Reuben Loughner, son of the dead man.
