George Lough ws reared to manhood in his native land, and soon after his marriage he and his wife went to Montreal, but not liking the country, returned to Scotland. They stayed in Scotland for 2 or 3 years before coming to America. They went as far west as Milwaukee. They did not establish themselves and again went back to Scotland. They were still unhappy there and decided to return to America in 1842 and landed in NY after 6 weeks & 5 days. They moved to Otsego County by way of the Hudson River to Albany, then Fort Plain, and then to Burlington Green. Mr. Lough remained there working, until he rented land. Then when he had the money he bought a farm in the town of Hartwick. When Mr. Lough came to America in 1842 he brough 8 Cheviot Sheep with him and they were the first Cheviot Sheep to be imported into the US.
