G.W. Lofftus and Margaret (maiden name?) Lofftus were both born in Virginia. At the time of the 1840 census G.W. was living in Christian County, KY. Their older children were born in Kentucky. They came to Illinois about 1840. Their children (from 1850 and 1860 census): Cecilia E, Jane H, Mary, Gertrude, Catherine F, Cornelia, Rosa D, Ann Mariah and Virginia Cecilia who married J. Horace Allaman.
After the time of Margaret's death, G.W. married Margaret Elizabeth Woods on Jan. 7, 1863 in Henderson County, IL and had three sons with her: George E., Charles F, and William E. Lofftus.
