George Prescott Keyte was born on 24th July 1877 at Broadway in Worcestershire, son of a domestic servant and gloveress named Ann Keyte, who was 22. George's baptism names his father as George Prescott, but he has yet to be identified. The 1881 census finds George living with his mother and her parents and siblings at Springfield Road in Broadway. By 1891 he was living just around the corner at China Square, still with his mother and her parents. George's mother Ann eventually married at the age of 38, to a painter named Dennis William Haines, who was only five years older than George. The 1901 census finds George living with his mother, stepfather and siblings.

Shortly after the 1901 census, George married Selina Jane Ravenhall.

George went on to become a postman, and was awarded a medal for 46 years' unblemished service when he retired in 1937. He lived to be 97 years old.

    MEDAL FOR POSTMAN
    Presentation Ceremony at Broadway
In recognition of his 46 years' service as a postman at Broadway Post Office, Mr. George Prescott Keyte, of Bibsworth-avenue, Broadway, was on Saturday presented with an Imperial Service Medal by Mr. W.J.B. Stone (Head Postmaster of Evesham). The presentation, which took place at Broadway Sorting Office, was attended by nearly all the local postal staff, including Mr. J.C. Cross (Broadway Postmaster).
In presenting the medal, Mr. Stone said: "On this occasion I am representing his Majesty the King, and it is a very pleasant duty which I am about to perform. These medals are not just dished out, they have to be worked for, and those who get them can feel themselves highly honoured. Mr. Keyte has completed 46 years' service with the Post Office, and he has gone out with an unblemished record."
Mr. J.C. Cross paid a glowing tribute to Mr. Keyte, and wished him and his wife many years of health and happiness. In thanking Mr. Stone for the medal, Mr. Keyte said he had always tried to do his best for everybody.
