Captain George Keeling, who was a member of the vestry of oldBlissland Parish in the days of Thomas henderson, was a man of someimportance in the community, though far from being the "Lord Keeling"so fancifully pictured by the genealogists of the Williams andHenderson Families. In 1704 he owned 1500 acres of land in New KentCounty, Virginia (Vol. 31, p. 222 Va. Mag. of Hist. & Biog.), and in1708-1709 was High Sheriff of the County. He came from York County toNew kent, sometime after 1695, for in that year he was plaintiff in alaw suit he had instituted in the Courts there against Edward Brewer,in which one John Smith was a witness.
