History of the town of Gloucester, p. 106: George Ingersol was born in 1618, the son of Richard Ingersol, a Bedfordshire man who was one of the early emigrants to Massachusetts. His first appearance in Gloucester is in 1646; when by his wife Elizabeth, his son Joseph was born. Other children of his born here, were: Elizabeth, born in 1648, died in infancy; Elizabeth, born in 1651, and Mary 1657. He was a selectman in 1652, and in the same year was licensed to keep an ordinary. He had a house in the Harbor and owned land in several places; which he sold and afterwards removed to Falmouth, ME. He was lieutenant, at that place, of the military force for protection against the Indians; and in the attach of the savages in 1675, had a son killed and his house burned. He returned to Salem and was living there in 1694. Notes: Besides the children already mentions he had sons: George, Samuel and John. George was a shipwright and d. Boston bef. 1730. Samuel was also a shipwright, returned to Gloucester after 1700. His wife was Judith who d. 11 May 1721. John lived in Kittery, ME, alive in 1713. Joseph m. Falmouth, Sarah d/o Matthew Coe, had returned to Gloucester by 1693 when had a daughter here. He d. 1718, his wife 29 May 1714. References
