FC, 2:208, 5 March 1746 - On the petition of James Coddy, Thomas Smith, John Parks, William Naylor, Josiah Arnold, George Potts, Darby McKeaver, Samuel Farrington, George Hoge, Peter Foster, and Walter D[illegible] for a road from Park's graveyard near Cape Capon water, over Dillon's Run, into the Wagon Road on Joseph Edwards's land, it is ordered that the said road be cleared by the siad petitioners and that they work on the same under James Coddy, who is hereby appointed surveyor thereof. And it is further ordered that the said James Coddy cause the said road to be kept in good repair and make bridges thereon where required according to law. [Augusta County Road Orders, 1745-1769].

Will of George Hoge, Sr.

In the Name of God Amen, the 3rd day of November in the Year of our Lord God-1798 – I George Hoge of South Carolina in the County of Pendleton. Being Very frail in Body, But of perfect mind and memory, thanks Be given to God: therefore calling unto mind the mortality of my Body and Knowing what it is appointed for all men once to Die Do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament that is to Say: principally and first of all I give and Recoment My Soul into the hands of God that gave it and for My Body I Recommend it to the Earth to Be Buried in a Christian Like and Decent manner at ye discretion of my Executors not Doubting But at the general Resurection I Shall Receive the Same again By the Mighty Power of God – and as touching Such worldly Estate wharwith it hath Pleased God to Bless me in this Life:
I give and Devoise and Dispose of the Same in the following manner and form: I give and Bequeath to John Ross my horse geers and other working tolls and a Pair of Stilyards and to my Daughter Barbra Ross I will and Bequeath my Pots and Peuter and Dishes and her mothers Spinning Wheel – and to my Daughter Barbra Ross I give and Bequeath my Bed and Bedding and to my Son George I give and Bequeath my Big Bible and my Chair: and to my Daughter Georetta I give and Bequeath my Coffee Pot Cups and Sossers and my Looking Glass at her Request I will that my Clothes may be Equally Devoided Between my two Sons George and John Hoge; and other effects to Be valued and Equally Devoided and the money which will Be Due By notes if I Leave any all to Be Equally Devoided Between my four children to wit my son-in-law John Ross my Son George Hoge and my Daughter Georeeta Brandon and my Son John Hoge: But first all Expences to Be Paid I also appoint my Son-in-law John Ross and my Song George Hoge to be my Executors and I Do Uterly Disalow Revoke and Disanul all and Every other testament wills By me given Before this time named willed and Bequeathed and Conferming this and no other to Be my Last Will and Testament: in witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal the Day and year above written.
