May 5, 1780: "It continued to pur all morning, and in the afternoon cleared up warm from the south. Everyone thinks that the water will be high. George Hartmann, of Friedberg, brought a small package from Pennsylvania, which had been brought to Salisbury by Leonard Kreiter, who left here on March 9th with a package of letters for Pennsylvania. the package had been lying in Salisbury for eight days, and contained the Bethlehem diary of October, November, and December 1779; there were no letters from Bethlehem, but only from br. Neisser and Jacob Blum, dated Yorktown, April 8th and 9th. the latter reported the pleasant journey and arrival there of himself and Br. Aust; Br. Neisser announced that the Brethren and Sisters from Europe, who had been so long and eagerly awaited, had finally reached Bethlehem on the 30th of March, namely the Hubners, David Zeisbergers, the widower Martin and two single Brethren. they had had a long and dangerous voyage of eighteen weeks, but had been wonderfully sustained by the hand of God."
