Before he was a Laurence County, Kentucky Union soldier, George was a farmer in Kentucky. He is listed as: Hardwick, George, Reg. 14, Co. H, Pvt. His brothers John (Sgt) and Richard (pvt) were in the same company. George was 82 when he applied for his military pension. (Fun note - There is a George W. Hardwick from Reg 12, Company K, Pvt who deserted, mustered in on January 1, 1864 for 3 years.) The regiment lost during service 5 Officers and 49 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded and 5 Officers and 142 Enlisted men by disease. The 1870 census shows he lived next door to his father.
