- I believe from my research, that Kate Grafton was my paternal grandmother through her second marriage to Hebert Thomas Walsh. Kate had 2 further children by Herbert Walsh one of whom was my father. At the time Kate's death in 1901 when the boys were aged 2 and 3 respectively. The family emigrated to South Africa in 1909. In true Victorian style HTW did not tell the boys anything about their mother, I know my father was deeply hurt by this and, I am not aware of any photographic evidence of her. I feel it is so sad that we know so little about her and the boys never knew their half brothers and sisters. In my quest I have come to appreciate there were reasons which the boys eventually became aware of late in life but a line was drawn under the whole affair.
