Marriage to Patience and step-family

George married Patience Miller (maiden name unknown) before her husband's will completed probate in 1786. He likely knew her because he lived near her brother-in-law John Miller (possibly William Miller as well). Patience had ten surviving children from her first marriage, although her eldest daughter had married about 1770, well before her husband died, and the next three eldest married early in 1778. Therefore George was likely step father to: Mary Miller, Nathan Miller (for an undetermined period of time), Samuel Miller, Ann Miller, Hampton Miller (also left for Canada, he returned to the US about 1802 and was remembered in George's will), and likely Jeremiah (unknown, details on Jeremiah missing).

Additionally, William Garrison and Mary emigrated to Canada about 1794 but William died in 1796, leaving "numerous small children." Mary may have also died or she may have returned to her mother's house in Monroe with some or all of her children and subsequently married a Carpenter (if so, she then moved to Virginia). Given his prominence in George's will and the absence of Canadian records, it seems likely that Garret went back to Monoroe and lived with or spent extensive time with his maternal grandparents.
