· He came to US from Ireland when he was a young man, in 1874 or 1875 (1900 and 1920 census). came on a freighter - played in the grain on the ship (Leo George or Alice? reports this) · Unable to locate 1910 census records for George. He is not in Lincoln County. Soundex not available at Clayton Library to facilitate checking Keith and Phelps counties. · He lived for a short while in Keith and Phelps counties (obituary of Mrs. George Evans) · His obituary reported that he had been a resident of Sutherland community for over 50 years. Family lore has it that he helped dig irrigation canal into the Sutherland area from the North Platte River. · A note in the Sutherland paper on August 1, 1946 indicated that on that day in 1916 one of the most disasterous hail storms visited the area with partial to total damage suffered by a long list of local farmers, George Evans was the first on the list · A letter (NKP collection) to Hank (Evans?) from Clara Jarman, Sutherland telling him about George's heart attack and general health, dated 8/6/46. The obituary indicates that George was found in the field by a neighbor who was helping him water.
