George and Rachel Drake were originally from New York and moved from Marshall County, Illinois. Their daughter Charlotte met and married James M. Kennedy. George was a brick mason by trade but became a farmer after moving to the Peters Colony, Dallas County, Texas. Their neighbors while they lived in Illinois were Major and Sarah Heustis who

had moved from Dearborn County, Indiana. When his first wife Rachel died he then married Sarah Heustis since her husband had died and they moved to Collin County, Texas. They were listed on the 1860 census of Precinct 5, Lebanon, Collin County, Texas. With them were David and Viola Drake and David Heustis with Thomas and Albert Heustis living

next door. His son Lyman Drake married Caroline Heustis. His son Ethan enlisted in the Civil War from Marshall County, Illinois. He was discharged and settled in Uniontown, Marion Township, Bourbon County, Kansas. His father George came to live with him and then died in neighboring Fort Scott, Kansas.
