    George Critz (Crytz) was born in Germany about 1750 and emigrated to America as a young man. His wife, Mary, was a native Pennsylvanian, born abougt 1751. They lived in Washington County, Maryland, where most of their ten children were born. .

    The 1790 census for Maryland shows two George Critz families in Washington County:.

    - one family consisting of two males above 16 years of age, two males under 16, and nine femailes;.
    - the other includes two males over 16 years old; three males under 16, and six females..

    On September 11, 1792, George Critz, "late of Washington County, Maryland" purchased property on a branch of Loonry's Creek of James River in Botetourt County, Virginia. Record is given in Botetourt County of the marriage of five of his children. (In addition, land records at Hagerstown, Washington, Maryland, show numerous entries for individuals by the name of George Critzer, Critizinger, Cretzer and Cresinger)..

    His will, dated 21 January 1805, and probated in Botetourt County, mentions his wife Mary, and children: John, Elizabeth, Conrad, Mary, George, Teenay (Christina), Anny, Cattey (Catherine), Henry and Phillip..

    George died shortly after making the will and was buried in Botetourt County..

    After his death, Mary moved to Ohio with her children and settled in Clark County. She died there on 6 March 1822. Her body is interred in the Vale Cemetery, near Springfield, Ohio, along with several of her children and descendants. Purchasers of goods and chattels of her estate mentioned in the bill of sale held 11 May 1822 included: Jacob Leffel, Peter Sintz, George Croft, Conrad Critz, with Peter Minnick the clerk of the sale.
