According to his son James, George was extremely proud of this award. The recognition came because of George's involvement on the Social Housing board and also partly because George was a Fireclay Manager, an occupation that had impacts on Britain's war economy. Post World War 11, the British Government made many such awards to individuals in recognition of the efforts put forth by it's citizens. These enabled the Allies to win the war.
