George M. Castle was born 3 months before the close of the Civil War. He came to Preston county with his parents, grew up, and was educated there. About 1892, he operated a sawmill and steam lumber plant on the Cheat River, above Trowbridge's Ferry for 4 years. In 1901, he came to Tunnelton and was employed as a blacksmith. He was noted to be a strict Independent, generally voting the Reform Ticket. (Tunnelton, W.Va. by W. Scott Garner) He apparently moved his family from Tunnelton to his farm on Walnut Hill during the week of March 24, 1910. (Preston County Journal, 3/24/1910) After Virginia's death in 1918, George married Emma Hall. In the 1920 Census they were living with George's children and 3 stepdaughters from Emma Hall. Emma died sometime before1930. In the1930 Census, he had already remarried and divorced Emma Blackwell. (Kathleen Denison)
