1860 Census: 1880 Census: Kansas Census of 1895: 1900 Census: George E. Bowen, an old settler and highly respected citizen of Greenwood County, died at his home in Otter Creek township, April 1, 1906. aged 74 years, one month and one day. Mr. Bowen was a well known farmer of this county and had lived a useful life enjoyed the confindence and esteem of his fellowmen. George E. Bowen was born in Genesee County, New York March 30, 1832. At the age of 15 he removed with his parents to Columbia County, Wisconsin. There he was educated. On January 1, 1861 he was married to Mary Elizabeth Axford in Columbia County, Wisconsin. To this union seven children were born, six of whom are still living. Nearly forty years ago he came to Kansas and to Greenwood County locating on a farm in Otter Creek township where he resided until his death. Beside his immediate family Mr. Bowen leaves 26 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services conducted by Rev. C.B. Wells were held at the family residence Tuesday at 11 a.m. Interment was in the Star Cemetery. (From the "Eureka Herald" 5 April 1906, page 1) References
