16 Nov 1893 issue of the Ohio Democrat (the New Philadelphia paper) Another Pioneer Gone. George Ankney, an old pioneer of this county and a gentleman who was greatly esteemed by his fellow man, died at his home on Stoncreek, near this city, on Friday, Nov. 10th, 1893, aged 88 years, 9 months and three days. Mr. Ankney was born 7 Feb 1805 in Somerset Co. Pa. and emigrated with his parents to York township, this county, to the farm on which he died, in 1815. A son and four daughters are left to mourn. His wife preceded him fourteen years ago. Deceased also leaves thirty grandchildren and fifty-eight great grandchildren. Funeral was held on Sunday afternoon and was very largely attended by friends and aquaintances. Revs. J. B. Rust and Kozower officiated at the obsequies. Peace to his ashes.
