He was 1 of 2 surviving sons as his parents crossed to Texas in a wagon train 4 children died of dipheria in an epidemic that went though the wagon train. The other 2 surviving children where female. (The only known name at this time is Mag (Allen) Perkins. Left home for the Confederate Army in August 1861 and enlisted on 7 September 1861. Returned home 24 June 1865 "Having never received a days furlough during the time of my service and was never wonded." At age 14 he joined the Terry's Texas Rangers in the 8th Cavalry Company D Mounted volunteers. The regiment was part of the Confederate army, and saw action during the Civil War in Louisiana near New Orleans. He spent a time with Teddy Roosevelts' "Rough Riders" during the Spanish American war. Later he settled in Elgin, Bastrop, Texas where he married Laura Lee Dabney. He was sheriff of Bastrop County for 4 years and served 1 term in the Texas legislature. Was 52 years of age at time of birth of Annie Thompson Allen and noted as age 10 in the 1850 census dated 29th day of August 1850. Sent for death certificate 9/27/2001 References
