Facts and Events
[Stamps-Sites_TFS.FTW] In 1749, the young couple decided to take their sons: Martin, Balthzar, and Samuel, and go to America (from Palatinate Province, Germany). They traveled down the Rhine River to Holland and sailed on the British Ship Jacob for the new world. The family arrived at the Port of Philadelphia on Oct. 1, 1749. Several years later, they gathered their children together and joined the German migration southward. After making several stops, they continued their journey west across the Catawba River to the head waters of Clark's Creek. In 1768 they chose a site there for their permanent home. The men cut trees from the forest and built a log house that was to be the family home until 1805. George and Catherina's daughters: Catherine and Elizabeth were born in North Carolina. George's wife died in 1787. George died in 1794. - Floyd G. Huffman, Sr. ["The Heritage of Catawba County", 1986, p. 230, #336 CATAWBA COUNTY HUFFMANS] George Hoffman settled in present day Catawba County about 1765. He made his home about two miles west of Conover at the head-waters of Clark's Creek. [Nancy Townsend Arndt, "Heritage of Catawba County"] References
