Gary L. Cipresse, 73, a lifelong grocer and resident of Jeannette, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Jan. 26, 2017, after being rushed to Allegheny General Hospital. Gary was born May 11, 1943, in Jeannette, a son of the late Quindy and Marie Loughner Cipresse. He was a graduate of Jeannette High School and directly went to work in the family grocery business. His food service passion took him from owner and proprietor of Clover Farms Grocery Store in Latrobe and Foodland in Connellsville, to co-owner and operator of Rudy's Subs and BJ Garby's Restaurant in Greensburg, with his wife Beverly. Gary continued in the grocery business as manager of five Shop 'n Save stores. Gary is survived by his wife of 49 years, Beverly Castine Cipresse; sons, Brian Cipresse, and wife, Stephanie, of San Jose, Calif., and Jarrod Cipresse, and wife, Denise, of Pittsburgh; and grandsons, Luca and Tobin Cipresse, both of San Jose Calif. Although Gary was an only child, his life was complete with the love and support of his in-law family, sisters-in-law, Marietta Nolan, and husband, Steve, and their daughters, Brandy Sivesind, and husband, John, and their family, Alyssa Karaffa, and husband, Matt, and Carol Brown, and husband, George. Gary was known by all for his gentle, humble and kind nature, a beaming happy face and his perpetual smile; this was his legacy to his family and friends.
Friends will be received 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the JOHN V. GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 228 North 2nd St., Jeannette. A blessing service will take place at 10 a.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel, with Father Paul A. Lisik as celebrant.
