Gardiner Burdick celebrated his 97th birthday, 24 Oct 1895. He was born at Rockville, 24 Oct 1798, the son of Alpheus and Phebe Burdick. Of the 19 children born to this sire, there now remains, Gardiner and three half brothers and sisters living in this vicinity, Abby A. widow of Col. D. M. Crandall of Rockville; Cordelia, wife of Edwin O. Kenyon; and Orrin Ray Burdick, both of Hope Valley, Bradford and Dr. Burrows Burdick, residents of Stoughton, WI and Atlana Whaley of Coventry.
Mr. Burdick was married to Elizabeth Ann Holland, 6 Jan 1820, by whom he had seven children. Three of whom are living, Elizabeth, wife of Deacon Gardiner S. Kenyon of Hopkinton; Fidelia, widow of Augustus R. Kenyon; and Henry G. Burdick, a prosperous farmer living near Rockville. After the death of his first wife, her aged parent were both cared for by Mr. Burdick, both living until 92 years of age.
Mr. Burdick's second marriage was to Elizabeth Crandall, 25 Dec. 1811, by who he had eleven children. Six of them whom are living at Rockville; Almedia, wife of Deacon William W. Woodmansee; Deacon Leander C. Burdick; Julia, wife of Abel B. Kenyon; Calfernia, wife of N. Henry Lanphear, Artemessia, wife of Jared G. Barber; and Lantie, wife of Senator Albert S. Babcock of Hopkinton.
Mr. Burdick is a man of strong convictions. He is a member of Rockville Seventh Day Baptist Church and has been for over 80 years. He has never worn glasses. He is exceptionally keen and his memory can be relied on to recall nearly all the local happenings in Rockville and Hopkinton for greater part of the century.
His second wife died, 15 Aug [1]882 and he has lived with his children. Mr. Burdick went to New York many years ago, which covered his traveling experience.
