From "Thomas Fox of Concord and His Descendants", by William F. Fox (1909): "...named after a favorite familt physician. There is no record of his birth or baptism on the books of the church at Millington, Conn., where the names of the thirteen other children appear. Gabriel lived at one time at Sackett's Harbor, Jefferson County, N. Y. (He) is authority for the statement that Daniel Fox, of East Haddam, was born in New London, Conn., and that while a boy went to East Haddam where, in accordance with the custom of those days he was apprenticed, to Lieutenant James Cone of that place 'to tan and shoe make.'
