Found in 1880 census in Flint, Genesee, MI, with wife Matilda and children John, Joseph, Laura, Mattie and Sadie (Sarah). He is working as a carpenter. --- Veterans schedule showed he served as a private 1862-65. He is living in Genesee and name is transcribed Demerest. There is also a record for Matilda Demorest (sic) making a civil War pension petition as a widow, but I coud not make out the date of her petition . --- Demarest family history states he served in Co. D 15th NJ Inf.
