AN OLD SETTLER GONE

Michael Wilkie, father of John Wilkie, a prominent farmer of Wilkin county, died at the home of his son John Wilkie in the town of Champion, Friday, September 25th, at 9:30 p.m. from the effects of being trod on by a team of young horses which he had been in the habit of taking care of. The old gentlemen went into the barn at seven o'clock to look after the team. A short time afterwards his son heard a commotion in there and found the old gentlemen lying under the horses feet with three or four ribs broken. He lived until about 9:30, suffering great agony and conscious up to the time of his death. The funeral occurred at the home of his son on September 28th, and the remains were buried in the town of Munson, Traverse county. Mr. Wilkie was a hale, hearty old gentlemen, respected by every one. He came to this country in 1872 and moved to Wilkin county in 1879, and while he lived to the good old age of eighty-six years and one month, but for the sad accident he might have lived to be a centurian.
