Frieda met Nikolaus in May 1918 at the military hospital (formerly private clinic of Mrs. Kommerzienrat [title] Sachs) in Schweinfurt, where she distributed apples to the wounded soldiers. Nikolaus said to himself "Her or no-one". He requested Frieda's name and address at the hospital administration and wrote her a letter. He suggested to meet her in front of city hall. They met and fell in love. Small wedding, only with parents and witnesses upon the suggestion of Frieda's mother. But they were permitted a three-week honeymoon in Bad Kissingen. Frieda's father was works manager of "Fries & Hopflinger", the oldest ballbearing manufacturing plant in Schweinfurt. -- Richard Farnlacher and Margarete Budjan, November 24, 1985.
