Facts and Events
Fredrick W. Beckman emmigrated from Westphalia, Germany about 1852. He worked at the trade of shemaking in Brooklyn, NY where he married Roseli Steiner and his first son, Fredrick C. was born. After a few years in Brooklyn the family moved to Jones Co, Ia where he partnered with a mill owner then working on a farm for a Mr. Buchnel. After renting land for a few years he purchased property and lived on it until 1885. He then sold it and moved to Sioux Co, five miles south of Hull. FW Beckman was subject to violent, sick headaches, often confined to bed for days with them. He seemed to suffer a stroke around 1882 with his health declined soon afterwards. References
