Immigrated from Önsbach, Germany in 1848. Daughter of Frank & Agnes (Seeger) Görmann. Wife of Medardus Hofer, m. 1851, a Civil War soldier who died in Lexington, KY in 1863.

MRS. HOFER DIES AT ADVANCED AGE

It is with regret that the Princeville Telephone chronicles the death of Fredericka Hofer, one of the oldest settlers and most respected citizens. She passed away peacefully at the residence of her son Lucas Hofer on June 12th after a few days illness. She was born in Baden, Germany, September 25th, 1828 and came to America in 1848, locating in Hamburg, New York and there married to Medardus Hofer in 1851. In 1854 they came to Illinois and located at Princeville where they lived happily until the civil war was declared and Mr. Hofer answered the call and fell in the cause of the country. Mrs. Hofer has resided in Princeville ever since. She was the mother of six children three of whom are still living; Mrs. Theo. J. Miller, Mrs. J. E. Swords and Lucas Hofer. She was a good virtuous Christian woman and always tired to help and cheer others in her king, pleasing way. When but a child she became a member of the Roman Catholic Church and remained true and firm to her cause and religion all through her long life of almost eighty seven years. The funeral services were held at St. Mary's Church on June 14th and the interment was in St. Mary's cemetery. Rev. Fr. McKeon, pastor of St Mary of the Woods church had charge of the service.
