Frederick William Laker was the first child of George Laker and Emily Allen.

Born in 1872, the first census he appears on is the 1881 Census where he is recorded as living at home with his parents.

By the 1891 Census he is living at his place of employment as a clerk at the Post Office, Edenbridge, Kent.

By the 1901 Census his job has brought him to St. Neots, Huntingdonshire, where as a clerk and telegraphist he is living as a boarder with his future wife (Martha Alice Impey) at his mother-in-law's (Martha Alice Impey née Hinsby) home. A few months after the census they were married.

By the 1911 Census they have had four children. Their first three children were Winifred Alice Laker, Alan Frederick Laker, Sydney Charles Laker. However, their fourth child Ethel Maud Laker was born premature and died aged 5 days. At the time of the census Martha was already pregnant with their fifth child Ethel Emily Laker. This was followed a few years later by their last child Victor George Laker.

Frederick went on to become an overseer in the Post Office.
