WESTBROOK - Frederick W. Wardwell, 80, of Louise Street, died Saturday, June 19, 2004 at his home after a brief illness. He was born in Portland, a son of Edward and Louisa Lavallee Wardwell. He attended Portland schools, and moved to Westbrook more than 40 years ago. Frederick worked for Portland Copper for many years before retiring. He served in the Army during World War II and was stationed in France. He was a member of the American Legion-Harold Andrews Post, where he was a past commander, a life member of the 40/8 Club, at which he held several positions, and the VFW of Portland. He gave many hours of volunteer service to the veterans homes in Scarborough and Togus. Frederick also helped coordinate the Memorial Day parade in Portland. His wife, Elenor Bean Wardwell, died in 2002. He is survived by a son, William and his wife Cathy Wardwell of Windham; a daughter, Denise and her husband Tim Joy of Scarborough; two sisters, Louisa Smith of Randolph, Mass., and Hazel Wardwell of Seattle, Wash.; and four grandchildren, Kelly and Ryan Joy, and Bill and Erin Wardwell. Visiting hours will be from 6-9 p.m., Monday, June 21, at Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St., Westbrook, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., on Tuesday.
