Frederick Tooke Dawson was born on 6 June 1886 in St Kilda to George Dawson and Louisa Reed. They lived in St Kilda and both Frederick and his brother George were both educated in the State School there. He left school at the age of thirteen and went to work in a hardware store where he stayed until he was 21 years old when he went on a holiday trip to Fiji. While in Fiji, he obtained a job as an overseer, on a copra plantation named "Waimagerie", on the island of Navaia. He stayed for two years. He returned to Melbourne in 1909 and went back into sales work with "Ackmans Furniture and Hardware" in Collingwood where he stayed for many years as Manager of their crockery store. He them moved over to "Foy's" in Melbourne and was Manager of their furniture department for many years until his retirement at the age of 72. Frederick and Edith Caroline lived in St Kilda, Brighton, South Oakleigh and Oakleigh. |
