"Joseph and Rosina and their five oldest children arrived in America in 1832 from Germany. Naturalization records of Stark County show that in April 1833 Joseph Friedmann renounced the Dukedom of Baden. Records show he purchased a farm in 1833. When Carroll County was formed the farm became part of Brown Township in Carroll County." "In the early years Joseph and Rosina were members of St. John's Church in Canton. Several of the children's baptismal records are on record there. Vinzens (Vincent) stayed on the original farm and he and Mary Ann (Reiling) Friedmann raised a large family." Franz Josephus FRIEDMANN (1) was baptised in 1790 in Catholic. He was born on 16 Apr 1790 in Moos, Baden, Germanyl He was buried in 1857 in St. Mary's Cemetary, Morges, Ohio. He died on 6 Feb 1857 in Brown Twp., Carroll County, Ohio. He was a farmer, carpenter. Franz Joseph married Rosina Klpfer in Baden, Germany on Feb 4, 1826. Franz and Rosina left Germany with their five children in 1832 and landed in New York and later settled in Brown Township, Carroll County Ohio on what is still known today as the "Friedmann Farm". Franz died in 1857 and Rosina died a short while later. He is buried at St. Mary's Cemetary in Morges, Ohio beside the church that he helped to build in 1851 near the farm so they did not have to walk to Canton every Sunday for Church Services. Franz was a highly skilled carpenter and became a very good farmer. Naturalization Records of Stark County, Ohio shw that in April of 1833, Franz denounced the Dukedom of Baden, Germany. Records in Stark County a! lso show that he purchased the Friedmann Farm in 1833. Later that year the farm became part of Carroll County, Ohio. He owned a total of 172 acres, purchasing 80 acres from Joseph and Barbara Hitt for $410.00 in 1833. Five years after he applied for U. S. Citizenship it was granted on September 17, 1838. In the early years Franz and Rosina were members of ST. John's Catholic Church in canton, Ohio. Several of their 13 children Baptismal Records are kept there. Franz's younger nephew arrived from Germany a short time later and stayed at the farm for a year or two before renting a place in Canton and moving on to Luxemburg, Iowa. Church Records in Germany show Franz had 4 brothers and 2 sisters. In 1866, Franz had one brother living in Canada, one in Cleveland, one in Luxumbourg, Iowa and a sister in Buffalo, New York. Not much is known as of yet as to what happened to the rest of the family in Germany. Speculations says that Franz's two uncles also came to America in the earl! y 1800's and settled in New York and in Pennsylvania. Rosina Helena KLOPFER (1) was born on 20 Oct 1796 in Moos, Baden, Germany. She died on 24 Dec 1878 in Brown Twp., Carroll County, Ohio. She was buried in Catholic. FREEDMANN - - December 24, 1878, Mrs. Rosa Freedman of the vicinity of Malvern - - aged about 82 years. The remains were interred in the CAtholic cemetery on Christmas Day.
