MANY DEATHS OCCURRED
Whipple Funeral on Saturday.
On Saturday afternoon at two o’clock occurred the funeral of the late Frank Whipple at the esidence of Geo. W. Ghoca. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Geo. Hirst with the Episcopal service. Mr. Whipple was a member of the “Forty-Niners”, a club of old settlers in the city and six members of this organization, Messrs. Tom Pipe, Ed. Jeffers, M. F. Skinner, W. H. Williams, Geo. W. Ghoca, and A. G. Nelson acted as pall bearers. A quartet which was composed of Mrs. Hugo Lea, Andrew Larson, Miss Lillian Knutson and Henry Nelson sang two well-known hymns, “Rock of Ages” and “Asleep in Jesus”. The gifts of flowers were many. The orders to which Mr. Whipple belonged are the Knights of Pythias, Odd Fellows and Forty-Niners and they paid beautiful tributes to their departed member. Mr. Whipple was laid to rest in Lake Side Cemetery beside his wife and son Irving. His loss will be greatly felt, not only by the people of Waupaca, but also by the large number of friends throughout the county. He was elected alderman and supervisor for many terms and served as mayor in 1897 and 1898. He was also chairman of the board of trustees of the Waupaca County Insane Asylum, which office he held at the time of his death.
Those attending the funeral from out of town were a son, Earl Whipple and wife of Berlin, Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Hayward of Weyauwega and Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Anderson of Scandinavia.
