They traveled by boat from Buffalo to Milwaukee and then by team and wagon. Franklin and his wife and two children, William and Sarah, remained at John Varnum's home until he had a dwelling built on the 60 acres. His other two children, Maria and Louise, were born there. His granddaughter, Mrs. Louise Davis Ellingsrud, of Edgerton, said of her grandfather Wescott, "he was small, wiry man and a very energetic person. In a bargin he always wanted the penny if it belonged to him, and for the other fellow to have his penny."

Our search began out of curiosity about the parsonage we were remodeling for our next pastor (our current pastor Michael Burns) in 1998. In the bank lock box where we found property information saying it came to us from the estate of Franklin R Wescott in 1912. We have no Wescotts currently on our membership rolls.

From the Edgerton Reporter: F. R. Wescott
After a long and painful illness, Franklin R. Wescott, for over fifty years a resident of Albion, passed to his final rest early Monday morning. For a number of years he had been a great sufferer, but with remarkable energy and persistency he kept at his work until seven or eight months ago.
He was the son of Rial and Mircy Shaw Wescott, and was born in Berlin, Rensselaer County, NY, August 6, 1827. In early childhood he moved with his parents to Oneida County, NY, thence after a year or so, to Alfred, NY. Here he grew to manhood, developing the qualities of a sturdy character on the rugged hillsides of the Empire state. He was married to Miss Harriet Langworthy October 18, 1851. Four years afterward, joining the tide of emigration westward, he settled in Albion June 1855, and united with the Seventh Day Baptist church of that village.
Four children came to bless their home. Their son William died in Fort atkinson less than two years ago. The three daughters, Mrs. Sarah Conway of Chicago, Mrs. Louise Babcock of Oshkosh, WI, and Mrs. Mariah Davis of Albion, have had the privilege of mintering to him during his last sickness. These, with the faithful companion who has been the joy and inspiration of his life for more than fifty-six years and who has patiently, bravely and tenderly cared for him during these months of helplessness, are left to mourn his departure. Mr. Wescott surprised his many friends by surviving a surgical operation last August, which he went to Chicago to have performed. This would not have been possible for one of eighty years of age had he not lived a strictly temperate life. He had never indulged in the drink or tobacco habit. He will be greatly missed in this locality where his genial face has been so familiar for more than half a century.
A large company of relatives and friends assembled at the home on Friday afternoon to pay their last tribute love and respect to a loving husband and father, a kind neighbor and a faithful friend. The service was conducted by his pastor. Burial in Fassett cemetery, Edgerton.
