Franklin P. Phillips, 85, of Slatington, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2007, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Twp. Born in Lynnport, Lehigh County, he was the son of the late Thomas and Phoebe D. (Ketterer) Phillips. Franklin worked in the welding department of Mack Trucks Inc., Allentown. He designed the Phillips Trailer used in potato farming, was a salesman at Dutch Treat Potato Co., Allentown, and operated a school busing company in the Slatington School District. He owned and operated Slatington Paving and Construction Company for many years. He was also an auditor for Washington Twp. He was a member of Union U.C.C., Neffs. Franklin enjoyed Upper Lehigh Lions Club. He was a 50-year member of the Schnecksville Grange, and a charter member of Grundsau Lodge 18, Emerald, and Oak and Pine hunting club, Renovo, Pa.
Survivors: Daughters, Patricia J., wife of Joseph Szapacs Jr. of Slatington, Jean R. Hoffman and her companion James Musselman of Schnecksville; grandchildren, Rickey Szapacs, Susan Schaffer, Lori Grischott, Debora Chabuk, Brian Hoffman; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, LeRoy and wife Lucille Phillips, and Carl E. and wife Harriet Phillips, all of Allentown; sisters, Margaret A. Snyder of Slatington, Mildred L. Wanamaker of Emerald.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, January 11, 2007, Harding Funeral Home, 25-27 N. 2nd St., Slatington. Viewing, 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2007, and 10:30-11 a.m. Thursday, both at the funeral home.
