  3. Artical describes how Frank saved his friends life, Ernest Scofield. Ernest oldest brother fell through the ice. Ernest jumped in to save brother, but was unable to reach him. Ernest would have also drown if Frank was not there to pull him out.

  17. Frank Winslow Sachs, 84, of 109 Penn Ave., Ephrata, died today at Lancaster General Hospital after a six month illness. He and his wife, Evelyn C. Friend Sachs, were married 54 years this July. He had lived in Ephrata since 1945. For many years he was a service technian for Sico Co. in Ephrata, retiring in 1978. Before that he worked for Denver and Ephrata Telephone and Telegraph Co. He was a member of Lutheran Church of the Holy Tinity of Ephrata. A Veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines and the South Pacific. He was a member of the American Legion Post 429, Veteran of Foreign Wars Cocalico Post 3376, Elks Lodge 1933, and the Golden Years Club, all of Ephrata, and the Red Rose Club. Born in Troy, NY, he was son of the late Oscar and Sarah Dawson Sachs. Surviving in addition to wife, are a daughter, Judith Anne, wife of Wilber Zimmerman of Ephrata; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
  18. SACHS-Entered into rest in Lancaster, Pa on January 17, 1997, Frank Winslow Sachs, husband of Evelyn C. Friend Sachs, of 109 Penn Avenue, Ephrata, Pa. in his 85th year. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity, 167 E. Main St., Ephrata, Pa. on Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Richard F. Michael officiating. Interment in Lincoln Cemetery, Ephrata, Pa. Friends may call at the Gravenor Home for Funerals Inc., 100 West Main St., Ephrata, Pa. on Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday morning for one hour prior to the time of service. Those who desire may make memorial contributions to the Thanksgiving and Memorial Fund of Trinity Luthern Church, 167 E.
