Frank Hassig, 88, of Grand Rapids, MN died on Monday, February 16, 2004 at Evergreen Terrace in Grand Rapids, MN. He was born in Devils Lake, ND to Joseph and Sophia (Tiefenauer). Frank served in WWII in Europe and after his discharge was a cement contractor in the Crystal, MN area until his retirement. He resided at the Manor House in Grand Rapids for the last 2 + years. Frank was a member of the Westphal American Legion #251 in Robbinsdale, MN and the Knights of Columbus in Crystal, MN. He loved fishing and hunting. Survivors: his former wife, Kathryn of Grand Rapids, MN; daughters and son: Janet (Cordell) Bennett of Marcell, MN, Robert (Beth) Costello of Chesterfield, MO, Susan Hassig of New Orleans, LA; brothers and sisters: Edwin Hassig of Crystal, MN, Frieda Sabie of Devils Lake, ND, Sophie Engle of Spokane, WA, Mary Stoffel of Chisago City, MN, Lois Eastman of Portland, OR, Bernard (Doris) Hassig of Alexandria, MN; grandchildren: Mark (Cheryl) Bennett of Princeton, MN, Michael (Lisa) Bennett of Plymouth, MN, Dawn (Robert) Barthel of Brooklyn Park, MN, Debra (Blair) Thompson of Crystal, MN, Kurt (Melissa) Costello of Bethalto, IL, Kent Costello of Ballwin, IL, Kory Costello of Ballwin, IL, Elizabeth Hassig of New Orleans, LA; great-grandchildren: Amanda Barthel, Scott Barthel, Sarah Bennett, Brian Bennett, Blake Bennett, Bradley Bennett, Andrew Costello, Matthew Costello, Kate Costello and Grace Costello; many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday, February 20, 2004, 9 AM until the 10 AM, Mass of Christian Burial at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 70th and Halifax, Brooklyn Center, MN. Interment Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials preferred to the American Cancer Society.
