Facts and Events
Franciscus Bernardus Duwel was born on the 27th of July, 1915, in the Haarlemmermeer, Noord-Holland, Netherlands as the eldest child and only son of Hnedrik Duwel and Jacoba Lijs. At the age of two, his sister, Antonia Cornelia Duwel, was born. His family was Roman Catholic and moved to Amsterdam on 22 February 1934, first living at Fazantenweg 51 and then, from 2 November 1935 onwards, at Spuistraat 291 II hoog. He left his parental home on the 12th of April 1939 and moved to the van Halewijnlaan 316 in Voorburg, Zuid-Holland, Netherlands. It's not clear what he did there, but presumably he moved there to work. Just over a year later, on the 5th of July 1940 and 2 months after the occupation of the Netherlands by Nazi Germany had started, he moved to the Fred van Pruinsenlaan 47 in Eindhoven, Noord-Brabant, the Netherlands. On 23 September 1940, he moved to the Amalia van Anhaltstraat 10 in Eindhoven. Once again, it is not clear why he moved to Eindhoven. In any case, he returned to his parental home on the Spuistraat in Amsterdam on the 29th of June 1941, presumably to spend the war years there. He married Angele Johanna Schröder in Amsterdam on the 15th of July, 1943 in the middle of the second world war. They moved in together on 5 October 1943, living at the Raamsteeg 4 I in Amsterdam. After the war, he worked as a car mechanic. The first of his children, Joke (my mother), was born in 1946. On the 25th of February 1948, the family moved to the St. Anthoniebreestraat 98 III hoog, where his son, Frans (my uncle), was born later that year. Within a year after the birth of his son, Franciscus passed away on the 19th of June 1949 as a result of kidney disease, aged 33. One wonders how he must have felt, falling so seriously ill at such a young age and with two very small children whom we would have to leave behind. Image Gallery
