p. 422: In the name of God Amen, I Francis STEFFEY of the County of Smyth and state(sic) of Virginia, being in proper mind and memory, thanks be to God for the same, Considering the mortality of my body, and it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and statement, To Wit.
1st That is(,) I leave to my daughter Margaret A. STEFFY two shares of the farm I now live on(,) one Share her own(, and the share that?) the Share belonged to her brother Jacob P. STEFFEY for which there has bin heretofore stated in writing and recording in the Clerk’s office of the County Court of Smyth County--. This is to be her or said Margaret A. STEFFEYs entire interest in my estate(,) the 2 two share is to be laid off at the extreme east end of the farm.
2nd My son William F. STEFFEY is to have his share p. 423: laid off adjoining Margaret E. SHEFFEY’s (as written) share so as to include 4 four acres of the flat field east of the barn, so as to run south west with said Margaret A. STEFFEYs line.
3d My daughter In law, Susan V. STEFFEY and her her (sic) heirs is to have there (Susan V.Sussheir) share laid off next to William F. STEFFYs share(,) said Susan V. STEFFEY is to have said share during her natural life[;] after her death and that of her husband John M. STEFFEY(,) said share to pass and belong to said Children, of said Susan V. and John M. STEFFEY.
4th Mandy S. MARTIN is to have here (her) share laid off next to or where she was formerly located and built a house[;] said share to belong to said Manda S. MARTIN and her husband, Rufus MARTIN her husband(,) so long as they shall live[;] after there (their) death to pass and belong to said Manda S. MARTINs children.
5th. My daughter Eve C. HOUNDSHELL is to have her share on the extreme south west portion of my farm or(,) in other words(,) where they now live or are located to belong to said Eve C. HOUNDSHELL and her husband H. J. HOUNDSHELL, so long as they shall live(,) after which said share to pass and belong to said Eve C. HOUNDSHELLs children for which said Eve C. HOUNDSHELL has a deed for said share and recorded in the Clerk’s office of the County Court of Smyth County(,) number of acres not known or surveyed or what much are in the same.
6th My son Abraham S. STEFFEY is to (have) his share adjoining Susan V. STEFFEYs share(,) running south west as has bin before stated in other shares.
7th. The last share my daughter Martha J. KEGLEY is to have on the extreme south west end of the farm adjoining John H. PHILLIPIs said share to belong to said Martha J. KEGLY and her husband Rufs KEGLEY so long as they shall live[;] after there (their) death to pass & belong to said Martha J. KEGLEYs children.
8th Farthremore(,) I will and bequeath that my loving wife shall have her dower in W. F. STEFFEYs and Susan V. STEFFEYs share for and during her natural life(,) after which to remain as heretofore stated.
9th Farthermore(,) I will and bequeath that each of the stated shares set apart as before stated shall be laid off so that each one shall have equal acres without any charge for improvements.
I hereby revoke all will and statement made by me[;] in witness whereof I set my hand and seal this the 10th. day of December 1889.

p. 424: Signed(,) sealed and delivered in the presence of Alexander PICKLE; Edly W. GRUBB. Virginia: At a Court held for Smyth County 20 January 1890. The last will and Testament of Francis STEFFY decd. was proven in Court by the oaths of Alexander PICKLE & Edlew W. GRUBB subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded.
