Facts and Events
Frank drowned in the Big Sandy River after saving his first son John, when John was young. This probably happened in the summer of 1858. I haven't been able to find Frank's father yet, but it is most likely Isaiah Smith who was living in Lawrence County in 1840. Whoever Frank's father is, he died or moved away from Lawrence County by 1850. Of all the Smith families on the Lawrence County 1840 census, Isaiah is the only one with a son who was Frank's age. It also helps that James Price and several Sperry's are on the same census page as Isaiah Smith. Frank and his wife Elizabeth Price lived with her parents, James and Katherine Price, for at least three years after their marriage. A Martin Smith signed as a witness on Frank and Elizabeth's marriage license. I believe this is a brother of Frank. References
