To whom these greetings may come:

I, F. M. Self, Sr. Was born Dec. 10, 1835 in Barren County Kentucky. Resided in said state until I was 18 years, 2 months and 26 days old. Only had a common school education. Our family consisting ofFather, Mother and eleven children of which I was the oldest, started to Texas March the fifth 1854. My Father and three of the children died on the way to Texas. Then I had to care for Mother and seven of the children as I was the oldest. I did the best I knew for them for my experience. My brothers and sisters all married off after a time though I had to care for James, the youngest for a long time. I was married to Sarah A. Easter February 7, 1856.
