Francis was a Captain in Robert Lanier's company during the Revolution; he then married Lanier's widow.

11 May 1802 - Admin on estate of Francis Poindexter dec'd granted to Jane Poindexter, widow & relict who entered into bond with Orman Kimbrough security in the amount of 3000£. Capt. Francis Poindexter is buried in the Clingman Cemetery, Shallow Ford Crossing, Yadkin (now Forsyth) county, NC along with his wife Jane and her first husband Robert Lanier.
