[edit] Research Notes[edit] 1850s1852 - Screven Co GA Tax Digest of 1852, p 15 Francis OLMSTEAD 36th District, of military age 1856 - In 1856 Francis Olmstead made an application the the court in Screven County, Ga. to change the course of Augusta Rd by laying out a new road from Buck Creek Church, and again intersecting the Augusta Road at his residence. (Book 3, Pg 361-Clerk of Ordinary). 1857/58 - In 1857 and 1859 FRANCIS OLMSTEAD was appointed Commissioner of Patrol in the 36th District of Screven County. (Book 3, Page 399, Clerk of Ordinary) 1859 - In 1859 He was appointed as Road Commissioner in the 35th District, Screven Co., Ga. (Bk 3, Page 444, Clerk of Ordinary) [edit] 1860sLetters of Administration 1856-1872:
1861 - August 8, 1861 joined the CSA with rank of Private. He was discharged Sep 10, 1862 "Muster Roll of 1st Co. G, 25th Regiment, Ga. Volunteer Infantry, Army of Tennessee, C.S.A. Screven County, Ga. "Brown Light Infantry" In 1864 a Savannah newspaper indicated that FRANCIS OLMSTEAD was a Captain in the Confederate Army. (He apparently had rejoined the army, and rose to the rank of Captain.) [edit] 1870s1874 - On April 29, 1874 the following notice appeared in the Savannah Newspaper. "We are pleased to learn that Mr. Francis Olmstead has consented to give his entire services to the public in curing corns, bunions and tender feet. His office at Number 70, Pulaski House" (Note this was at the NW corner of Bryan and Bull Streets, at present day 199 - Picadilly Rest. located there). References
